Experiences

Though I am just out of college, I have had many life experiences that have shaped me into the person that I am today. Many of these life changing experiences happened during my college experience as I became involved with different people, organizations, and had the opportunity to study and travel around other countries.

Some of the largest influences on my life were my work experiences, my membership in Sigma Kappa Sorority, my experiences traveling and studying in other countries, and finally my opportunities to serve my community.

Community Service

As a part of Student Voluntary Services and Sigma Kappa, I was involved in a lot of community service. Some of the organizations I served include Willowbend Nursing Home, The Alzheimer's Foundation, The UltraViolet Foundations, Inherit the Earth, Maine Sea Coast Mission, and Animal Rescue Fund. Participating in events and raising money for these organizations has made me a better person and better able to relate to people in different cultures or situations. I also learned a lot about myself by helping these programs.

While I was an active member of Sigma Kappa, I had the opportunity to be the Community Service Chair. This position enabled me to plan Sigma Kappa's participation in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's and our team raised over $1,500 for the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Sigma Kappa

I joined Sigma Kappa Sorority my sophomore year of college and it has changed my life. I know that Greek life has a bad reputation with all the stories that are published about parties and drinking, but my experience could not have been farther from that image. Sigma Kappa has not only made me a better person, but has also given me so many opportunities that I would not have otherwise had.

The social aspects of a sorority have made me more assertive, confident and because of the experiences and the people I have met, I am better able to communicate with anyone. My sorority has given me opportunities to participate in philanthropy projects and help organize philanthropy events. Lastly, it is through Sigma Kappa that I have become a leader and more capable of handling crisis. For more information about my leadership experiences please see my resume.

Study Abroad

Studying abroad and traveling around Europe has changed my life and changed the way I think about other people and cultures. It is amazing to me that people can have so much in common and yet be so different. The way different people choose to live their lives and the cultural norms of different countries are incredibly interesting to me. Studying in England and traveling to places like Spain, Hungary, Switzerland, and so many more have made me much more aware of my own place in the world and as a United States citizen. My experiences have also better equipped me to communicate with people from different cultures.
